What are Neglected Tropical Diseases?
COR-NTD supports the global effort to control and eliminate diseases, which impacts more than a billion people worldwide. Neglected tropical disease are caused by vector borne pathogens like flies, mosquitoes or worms, that transmit the disease to humans. These diseases are preventable and treatable. Populations impacted by NTDs are typically populations affected by the inequitable distribution of power and resources, which in turn do not have access to clean water, medication or other resources for prevention or treatment.
Neglected Tropical Diseases are designated as such by the World Health Organization. Currently, there are 20 designated. COR-NTD focuses mostly on the five Prevent Chemotherapy NTDs.
